Can any geniuses solve this lottery problem?

The Mega Millions lottery reaches $220,000,000. A man buys $5 worth of tickets and finds out after the drawing that he has all the correct numbers for the top prize. When he goes to turn in his ticket he is told that he has indeed won, but that one other person also won and he will have to share the winnings.
He eagerly waits for his lump sum check in the mail. When it arrives he is shocked to discover he is holding a check for $1,000,000 and is told he will not be getting anymore money, ever. Furious, he calls the lottery office and tells them about the error. They look into it and call him back and tell him there is no error. How can this possibly have happened?
(For this problem, both winners will pay taxes out of the checks they receive).

There is only one other person who has a share of 220 million dollars with the punter you describe, but this other person, following a hunch, bought 219 identical tickets, with the same winning numbers on them, and scoops 219/220ths of the prize money as a result.

The mistake is in assuming there is one other winning ticket, when you are told there is one other winner. You choose what your 6 numbers from 49 will be, and there is nothing to prevent you choosing the same set of numbers more than once.

All the correct numbers on spread over several tickets, but a few tickiets had enough numbers correct to total up to 1,000,000 in total prize money.

easy i think 238000000 was paid too the govement in taxs

i agree with brucebirchall

The other winning ticket holder was for a group of people playing together. The lottery share was divided among all of the 'winners' sharing the winning lottery ticket.

he bought 5 tickets - one had all correct numbers but ?1
the other correct number was on one of his other four dud tickets
