Why does my doctor want to put off removal of my ovaries for as long as possible? |
I have a large benign cyst on my cervix and several small, yet very painful cysts on my ovaries. I am 28 years old and I can not have anymore children. My doctor seemed certain that I will have to have my cervix and both ovaries removed at some point. I know that this will cause me to have hormone issues, but I don't know what other effects could come from having my ovaries removed. I don't believe he did a biopsy on the ovarian cysts, but they looked benign on the ultrasound. My question is why is he waiting to take them out? Is it really going to be that rough on me? I am going back to the doctor's office on Friday and I will find out if the cyst on my cervix is still growing or not, if it is, that may change what he wants to do. I know I sound like I want the surgery, but the fact is, I am just tired of the pain and feeling sick. If anyone that reads this has any advice or knowledge to share with me, I would surely appreciate it. Thank you. Yes, hormone therapy can be very rough. Your only 28 its healthier for you to have your own body regulating your hormones than medications. Typically with medications it takes several tries before the right combination and dosage is found for an acceptable level. Your levels also will need to be checked regularly. However; I know what it is like to have GYN problems and feel sick and in pain all the time. I'm 30 had a hysterectomy 4 mo ago and feel awesome. But I still have my ovaries. Yes, your best best at accurate answers is definitely your doctor talk to him about how you feel and your fears/concerns for being on hormones. the docs want you to keep your ovaries as long as possible because your ovaries make hormones. without the ovaries, your body does not have the hormones that you need, so in essence, you will have to take a synthetic hormone pill. (i.e., prempro - pregnant horse pee is the main ingredient in this medication.) if you don't take the medication and you do not have your ovaries, then you will be more apt to loose bone mass at a quicker pace and you will have the stray hairs growing on you face. When you no longer have your ovaries..you need to take hormone replacements. Your ovaries are vital for keeping your hormonees in check. So if you can keep them in..do it. Unless they gradually die or have to be taken out for medical reasons..it is always safer to keep them in so that your body can still produce those hormones you need. |
