Need help in networking?

You have asked by Thrift Towne, a local charity retail organization, to install a network in its downtown office. Its currently has four PC鈥檚 running Windows XP Professional, with the following specifications:

飪楶entium II, 500 MHz processor, 128 MB memory, 4 GB hard drive
飪楶entium II, 500 MHz processor, 256 MB memory, 10 GB hard drive
飪楶entium 4, 1 GHz processor, 512 MB memory, 40 GB hard drive
飪楶entium 4, 3 GHz processor, 1 GB memory, 120 GB hard drive

Thrift Towne鈥檚 owners are not very concerned about security, because the network will share only inventory information (customers remain anonymous and not tracked) between its own PCs. Thrift Towne uses volunteers to run its stores, and the volunteers are not technical experts, so they are hoping for a solution that doesn鈥檛 require any complex maintenance. In addition, Thrift Towne doesn鈥檛 have much money to spend on this project. In short, the owners have asked for a simple, inexpensive solution.

Pentium II with only 4Gb and running XP Pro? Very unlikely as it will be slower than snail and will not able to fit any other softwares.

Anyway... best thing is:
1. Get a router with minimum 4 ethernet ports. Setup the router as DHCP server.
2. Install ethernet cards on every PC and make sure they get their IP automatically. Connect the PCs to the router using CAT5 ethernet cable.

So whats the prob? Buy a router...preferably wired for security reasons and cheaper too, install nic cards and run the networking wizard on all PCS!

Dont even need a router, buy a hub.
Connect the computers to it
and there you go

or You can use the Network Connection Wizard
START --> PROGRAMS --> ACCESSORIES --> COMMUNICATIONS --> NETWORK CONNECTION WIZARD
Answer the questions and youll be asked to supply a disk to install in the other computers.
And that will pretty much do it for you
