Need advice for a college campus administrative assistant interview? |
I am a recent graduate of the college I am interviewing with next week.I happen to have a relative that works on campus, so I'm thinking that is how I actually got the interview in the first place.I've been applying to the same types of positions for the last two months now and they're the first to call.Anyway, since I now have the interview I need some advice from anyone that works in an office on a college campus or in one related to a school environment on what to expect from my interviewer(s).I don't have administrative assistant experience.I have three years of Front Desk Clerk experience in hotel customer service and I worked five years with elementary school children as a Teacher Assistant.I have a B.A. in Liberal Studies, a Teaching Credential and an M.A. in Education.I'm concerned that my work experience is not enough and I have too much irrelevant education.Does anyone have any tips or suggestions for convincing the interviewer(s) that I am a great candidate for the position. Get a copy of the job announcement and/or requirements for the position. Match these to your own experience and knowledge and concentrate on those while preparing for your interview. Know what the department does that you are applying with. Emphasize your strengths. Talk about your computer experience and what programs you know. You apparently have customer service experience and that will probably be a big plus in that position. You also have experience as an assistant, so take what you learned "assisting" and apply it to the position you are interviewing for. You'll do great and good luck. |
