Is it illegal for felons & parolees to associate with one another?

I ask this because our building manager (ex con) allowed a tenant (ex con) to use the common area (lobby) for a dinner that was said to be given by a local church for TENANTS ONLY. The man told me this "church" has services in A DIFFERENT LOCATION every week.
This event turned out to be nothing more than a well thought out way to bring non-tenants into the building. This is a FARCE & the tenants want to know what they can do to never have to deal with having these people all in one place again! It was unfair & we think (hope) illegal activity. How can we prove it & what should we do? The Police dept said that without names, they can do no background checks. The parole office is closed on the weekends.

Is this happening in any of your rent assisted buildings? If so....BEWARE!

I don't live in a church. This "church" is a "roaming ministry". The tenants were told they needed to sign up to attend & that no outsiders or guests would be allowed into the building. That was the big lie! All of the people were off the street & unknowns. House rules say all guests mush shoe ID & sign in at the office before entering. NOT TODAY! Abuse of government funding & civil rights violations, not to mention intent to misuse a religious organization for criminal gatherings. I'd say that's cause for alarm! HOUSTON, we HAVE A PROBLEM! Nobody wants Peckerwoods with swastikas & grim reapers & white power hanging out in the common areas without their shirts. That belongs behind closed doors. Not in public housing with zero tolerance & disabled people. Clear now?

Well, it is obvious that the people that gathered in your common area made you feel threatened. If part of the security system is a strict sign in for all guests and any group of strangers was allowed to bypass that safeguard, I think I would feel threatened also. It is a fairly bold statement to ink in swastikas, but to take your shirt off and display your tats during a church service is bolder still, or your building has really bad air conditioning. It sounds like whoever was there is now gone. The manager who allowed this has a supervisor and they should be available by Monday. Hopefully church won't meet again on Sunday and whoever is in charge of security in this building can keep it from happening again, or at least, if a tenant is going to have a group over that the established protocol be followed and the other tenants be respected in their own homes by not having strangers wandering the hallways half dressed.

Most state laws forbid felons to associate but, who's the parole officer and, usually they are over worked.. However if a crime is created or there criminal activities then it's a police problem.
If you complain to the probation department then they may look into it but, don't hold your breath.

Well they certainly associate with one another in the half way houses run by the state. They can go as a group to church or food kitchens. They go to meetings AAA & NAA meetings where they associate with one another. Did you go to the dinner, was anything illegal going on or are they helping each other stay straight. They go to school and associate. I really do not know what they did to alarm you. Need a little more information.

As a former prison employee at an all male prison, I have to agree with what "Old Dragons Guardian," said, in that not all former inmates are bad people. We all make bad choices in life, but some of those bad choices, land people in prison. It's what those people do with their lives after they serve their time, is what's important. As the Police Dept. said, if you have no proof of wrong doing, it all becomes a "mute point."

Hes nothing but the manager. Get a hold of the owner of the building let him or her know whats going on Sounds like he does not care about the tenants. and you don't have to give your name. Just let the owner know whats going on

I don't blame you , Our homes are our safe place and its not fair that one tenant can put you in jeopardy, Some one casing out the place, I do know parolees are not allow to mingle with each other

EDIT:There are thousands of felons in attendance at the same church all across America and many are friends.

I would say, yes.

OK I can tell from your attitude that you think that all ex cons are filth and should be isolated from society at all costs, but I would like to enlighten you just a bit if that's OK with you.

Speaking from personal experience, at the age of eighteen I was sentenced to 10 years in a state prison for writing a couple of bad checks, I served my time and after my release I spent the next several years drinking, fighting and generally making a fool of myself, my mistake to be sure, but after a period of time I became one of the most loving and caring individuals that you could hope to meet. Now I am a friend to anyone that needs a friend and would do anything within my power to help anyone that needs help. You can trust me with your belongings, your house, and your family.

I guess what I'm trying to ask is this - Please don't put all ex felons in the same category since we are are not all the same.

Yes! In most cases it is a condition of parole or felony probation BUT it is generally up to the discretion of the parole or probation officer.EVEN mothers,dads,sisters and brothers MAY NOT "hang out" together if both are convicted felons> they may see each other ususally two holidays a year(Christmas being one of them )the below stated are ordained by the parole board and therefore acceptable and church because of the separation of church and state law two felony family members MAY attend church together or NA /AA meetings but thats as far as it goes I know becausI've dealt with it as have some of my friends-WHO im not supposed to hang around (wink)
