Getting Patents?

i WANT to get a provisional patent but I don't know what to do. I went to ALL the web sites and know which web site to get it from but don't know who to contact or if i can even get one. does anyone know where to go on

First of all. you don't GET a provisional patent. You can FILE a provisional patent APPLICATION.

However, thats not really a good name for it, because you arent really applying for anything. You are just going on record with a description of your invention in order to capture a filing date.

That date is only useful if you later file a regular utility or design patent within one year of the filing of the provisional application.

You should really get the assistance of a patent agent or attorney so they can help you figure out what should be in your application. Its worthless if it doesnt actually support the application you eventually file. It has to explain how to make and use the invention....

you can find a professional by searching the roster of attorneys and agents. Use the index at www.uspto.gov. You can search it by the first three digits of your zip code to find someone local.
