What possesses people? |
to be such B**** or D**** to the people in food service?? Do people not consider public service people human? how would you feel if someone went to your office and pulled the same crap you do on people who serve you. don't get me started on the people that; after you read their requests back to them and take their order out they say that that is not waht they ordered when it clearly, without a doubt, WAS what they ordered and they make you feel like it was your fualt. Knowing that service professionals are generally unable to fight back or challenge rude behaviour, many insecure or immature people feel that they can abuse these people without fear. For the people who serve them food, it is usually because tipping has pretty much gone the way of being a gratuity to that of being expected, and also of a certain amount to be given. Whether or not people actually will give a tip in that amount doesn't matter. It's that going in they know they are expected to tip and tip a certain amount. Therefore, they immediately expect the server to live up to deserving that tip. When tipping was always considered a gratuity, then that expectation of service wasn't anticipated or expected, and so less was demanded of the customer because less was being demanded of them. The truth is that food service has been portrayed as meanial work done by the least educated in society. Look at the tv show "Alice", a full generation of people saw a slutty/big haired waitress and a fat greasy cook. Its a transiant job that has no effective union. If you work that particual field don't expect to be treated to well. After all the people going to resturants expect to be weighted on and treated well for paying outrageous prices. They don't go there to praise the staff. I know what you mean... its not just in food service, its in all service related fields... Well, when an adult has to put up with some disrespectful teenager behind the counter who isn't paying attention and therefore gets the order wrong but refuses to take responsibility for it, then there is a problem. Because many people don't care about anyone but themselves. In defense of some of them though, I notice that politeness and a professional attitude are lacking in many people who are working in service jobs. When manners and respect for others decreases, society goes to hell in a handbasket. yea i know now a days you think to yourself "if i ask I wonder if shes gunna act bitchy about it?" you shouldnt have to worry about feeling dumb or getting into a fight by the workers but eh too much damn ghetto people nowadays I believe that every person who is rude to people in the service industry, never themselves worked in that field. If everyone was forced to have a job serving people, everyone would be more polite...and probably tip better. I completely agree with you-- food service people are treated badly. They are looked down upon because they have minimum wage jobs, and other people think it is okay to disrespect them. Because people in general are inconsidate and rude. They do the same things to people who work in grocery and department stores. They think they are better than everyone else which they aren't. |
