When MI5 removed Harold Wilson from power in the 70's, why didn't someone think this was undemocratic?

The BBC made a great documentary and aired it in may 2005 pretty well proving that a splinter group in the secret services decided to remove or "Black propaganda" him from office, which is what they did. Why doesn't this bother anyone, as it means that our vote is worth zip? If it happened then, why not happen now? I mean who's to say groups like "Le Cercle" aren't doing the same thing to our generation?

I think you need to watch that documentary again, you don't seem to have been watching the same programme as the rest of us.

MI5 may have conspired to force him out of office but they didn't follow through.

I'm sure M15 and other agencies consider all sorts of sh*t that would turn the average citizens hair white but at the end of day, this is the UK not some banana republic where they change their leaders as often as they change their bed sheets. It would have destroyed Britain's credibility & standing in the world and made a mockery of everything that went before to make Britain the great country it was then & it is now.

As an American, I can assure you the British people may well be turning into "sheeple" as Americans are. (Sheeple=sheep+people) Engage someone in conversation and watch for the tell tale signs. (Rationalization, apathy, indifference.) Remember, the Nazis got to power as people wanted "the trains to run on time."

It's a shame that the BBc has drofted so far from it's Charter under this Government. Everyone seems to have forgotten it is not supposed to be an arm of government but an organisation independant of government and commerecial pressures. It shows how standards of our leadership have dropped when tyjhey have to have someone sacked for finding the truth, and then arranging the killing of a loyal servant. three cheers for Blair and Brown

It is pure speculation to say the Intelligence Services removed Harold Wilson!however;Saying that I have always had that 'feeling' there is a lot more to come out about that episode of British politics!What a pity some one cannot legally remove this incompetent cretin Gordon Brown!

I think your theory about MI5 removing Harold Wilson is far fetched nonsense.He left office in 1976 because of failing health.Besides I don,t have much faith in the BBC for telling me anything of any value.It is the "state" broadcaster after all.
