My girlfriend just got offered a new job and a raise in the same day what should I suggest her to do?

My girlfriend has been working at a small physicans medical staffing office for almost a year it's a good company she gets paid a reasonable wage for her work, she does medical billing for the doctors that work for the service but it seems like their isn't any room for advancement, on the othe hand she just got offered a position in a major hospital in the area, lots of room for growth but they offered her the same pay rate of her present job. She was going to take the new position because of the advancement opportunities but when she went to put her two weeks in her present job offered her a raise of a $1.50 more than what she makes now and that of the new position so she just called me and asked what should she do and I dont want to give her bad advice.

She is afraid that if she stay at her present job they are going to look at her different because she found another job but she dont want to lose the opportunity to go into a hospital.

Please give us some good advice?

If she is looking to move up, I'd say go with the new job. The company responded only to keep her there. In the end tell her to think of both situations and see which one feels more comfortable. The good thing is if she takes the new job it won't be a pay cut. And she'll have opportunity to make more in the future and learn lots of new things. Best of luck to you both!

If she's getting by on her current wage, I would say take the job at the hospital. Having a job with room for advancement can be personally rewarding, not just because of the pay increase.

That's what I would do if i was in her shoes, however, that's a very personal choice and she should probably make the decision herself.

I would goto the Hospital and let them know her current employer offered her a higher rate and see if they will match it. If not, there really is no need to stay in a job with no advancement. She is getting the experience behind her belt yes, but it is always better to be in a position where you can climb that ladder, if that is the career she wants to do, rather then be in a dead end job with no future in site.

this may seem to short and simple but whatever she would be happier doing. She should consider if her job offer is a once in a lifetime chance or a really good experience. Don't worry about other people or money to much compared to happiness, she will be there an awful lot.
Hope this helps, best luck to both of you!

From reading this, I can tell you both prefer the hospital opportunity. And that is what I recommend. $1.50 more is not going to outset the value of the opportunity at the hospital.

Advancement and growth opportunity is pricesless, way beyond money.

Take the new job, it pays the same and will give her a new experience. She may also have a better chance of getting a premotion if it is at a bigger company.

Sorry, I know you aren't going to like this answer, but...

Do whatever you want to do.

As long as you're happy, your life will be good. Tell her to look into her heart and she'll find the answer.

i would go where the potential for growth is greater. They only offered her the raise because she is attempting to leave, not as a reward.

Take the new job. She will eventually get a raise there.

It really depends what she wants to do. If she likes her job and could see herself in that office for another 20 years or so then take the raise and stick with it. There is nothing wrong with staying in a job that you like.

But, if she really is just using that job to pay the bills and she really wants to be something else, she should follow the other job because that might lead to bigger and better things.

It all depends what she wants to do and where she sees herself in the next 5, 10 and 20 years.

On second thought, she should hedge her bets. Approach both of her employers and just lay it out for them. tell her original job that she likes it there but doesn't want to be pigeonholed into a position where she can't advance and ask what they could do to allow her to move up.

As for the other position, tell them that you got offered a raise at your current job and that the new job should "make it worth your while" to leave the other job, otherwise what is the point?

She is in a very powerful position being wanted by two companies, she should use it to her advantage!

Honestly, she should do whatever makes her happy.

But if it was me, I would take the new job at the hospital, because once she begins to advance in the hospital, her wages will rise as well. The only reason why her current employment offered her the $1.50 raise is because she is considering leaving. If she feels like she will not advance at the current employment, then the job at the hospital would be the best bet, in my opinion. At least her wages will more than likely go up as she works her way up at the hospital.

if she has medical coverage and dental converge plan were she is working right now, it might be to her advantage to stay with her current employer. If she changes jobs and looses her benefits, it could take as long as 90 days to get new coverage
and how long will it be before she receives enough raises in pay to equal the $1.50 raise she just received?

THE GRASS IS NOT ALWAYS GREENER ON THE OTHER SIDE!

Just think about it , pros and cons before she makes a decision. My mom always told me that the best decisions are made with a clear mind, so sleep on it.
