McCain, Obama, Paul... does it really matter in the context of Presidential power?

A President does NOT have:

1. A Lever in the White to Create Jobs
2. A say in how tax dollars are spent
3. Ability to pass laws
4. Money: The governemnt is 9 trillion dollars in debt and the people are over-taxed now. We are a nation of 300 million and only 28.4 million pay more into the government than they recieve in government services & benifits or employment by state, federal or local agencies.

don't we give way to much attention to an office that is completly ineffective and has no real ability to create meaningful change in our lives??

Aren't "WE" as individuals ultimately responsible for change in our lives and not a faceless politician in Washington DC?

Essentially, you are correct. Obsessing over politicians in Washington fulfill the same void in people's lives as obsessing over celebrities in Hollywood (only with a greater feeling of elitism and self-importance). Even local polliticians have a much greater influence over our daily lives than politicians in Washington DC, but how many people on here do you think pay attention to local politics as much?

That does not mean we should not be informed voters when it comes to national politics. The President's power to veto, nominate Supreme Court Justices, act as commander-in-chief, etc., are all important, but his greatest influence has become the symbol he represents to the rest of the world. Just the same with every country, what your most powerful public figure stands for is how the world will perceive you and your fellow countrymen.

we sure screwed up when we put gw bush in office Thanks Florida
