Will upgrading to Windows XP Service Pack 2 erase the existing data on my PC?

I currently have Windows XP Professional Service Pack 1; my computer insists me to upgrade to SP2 but I want to know if that will erase the existing data on my PC (MS Office, personal documents, programs etc.) or not? And my computer also has a few moderate viruses as well as dual operating systems. Any advice?

No. SP2 does not do anything to your data or existing programs.

Service Packs in general don't do anything with data (files, etc.) that you have created. They update the operating system. However, installing a service pack is a good time to backup your files to some sort of external storage just in case.

You should not lose any data when you upgrade. However you must remove and viruses before you upgrade, and for safety, backup your data just incase.
