Itunes and Open Office Help?

I'm trying to sync my ipod but it says it can't sync unless I get windows XP service pack 2. But that won't install, I thought about buying Vista but why should I do that if I can get Open Office for free. So my question about itunes and open office being compatible stems from this problem.
The second question about open office installing over Windows XP was about whether I can just download open office over the top of my xp operating system? I don't want to wipe everything off and start again. Does that clarify my problem a bit better? Do I need to take Windows Office XP off my pc before putting open office on it?

1. Vista does not normally come with an office suite anyway. iTunes is compatible with both XP and Vista.

2. OpenOffice is just like any other program.It does not require you to remove XP at all.

3. Office XP is not an integral part of your operating system, despite the "XP" in the name. OpenOffice can be installed alongside Office XP.

Office has nothing to do with itunes. To get Windows XP SP2, go to Windows Update. Probably will take hours if you only have SP1, and by now service pack 3 is probably available for download (which has everything is SP2 plus new updates)
