How hard is it to hook up a desktop PC to a wireless router? |
I know that people commonly hook up laptops to a wireless router, but I'm wondering if it's possible to hook up a desktop PC to a wireless network. The only reason I want to do this is because the room I want to use as an office has no phone jack - I plan on buying DSL service (AT&T). get a linksky router for about 65 dollars and load the soft ware it will talk you though everything and it will take you about 30 mins to get it all set up. and it don't matter lap tops desk top they all work you just need to get a wireless adapter card for your desktop you want to run wireless. piece of cake If your PC doesn't come with wireless network capability, but if not then you have to buy a USB wireless adapter that you install the system and plug it into your USB port so it can pick up the signal. The prices usually range about 40-70 dollars but then again.. there's no limit on the prices you can find! It's not difficult, provided the computer has a wireless card. They're cheap. most laptops have wireless network capability but if your pc doesnt then theres a thingee you have to buy so it picks up the signal. if yours is quite new then it should be ok. but its hard to set up - take it from me, ive had to do it 3 seperate houses and it did my head in every time. |
