Do you tax your car on line?

My car is due for taxing, I have done this on line for the last 2 years and found it an excellent service.The papers came to day and I was browsing through as you do and low and behold it says "if you tax your car on line or phone you will be charged an extra 拢2-50 for using your card.How the f**ck can you pay on line with any thing else. I will now be paying mine in cash at a post office and stuff paying on line. Its like paying extra tax. Folks why don't you do the same!

I have just taxed my car on line for the 3rd time and it is a good service. You have misread the information regarding paying on line.
The charge of 拢2.50 is for credit card users only. So using your debit card is free.

a good question i have always been a bit dubious about renewing roadtax on line for the following reasons
there are 2 offences related to road tax
that of not having any
and also failing to display road tax ,,,if not on show then it doesnt matter if you do have it ,it is the offence of failing to display,
if you renew at a post office you get the disc there and then
but if you renew on line how long does it take for the disc to reach you and will you be prosecuted for failing to display the disc even though you have paid it.
as you say the extra cost also comes into it as well its just another stealth tax by any other name,
so like you i will continue to use the post office(while we still have one)

Debit cards are free. It's credit cards that are charged for. The web site makes this clear.
