Is texting an addiction for some youths?

We have an office admin who appears to be addicted. She is nineteen, and constantly texting. She had a company phone, and ran up ridiculous bills from the excess texting. When the boss found out, he disabled texting on her phone. A month later, it was discovered she had called our service provider and re-instated texting on her phone, and ran up another large bill. She was reprimanded, her phone was taken away, and the account was password-protected. She has her own phone now, and the texting continues ceaselessly. How she is still working here is another story. I cannot understand this fascination with texting. Is this a problem for some people?

I think it is an addiction of sorts. Two weeks ago I picked up my 16 year old from school. As she stepped over a wall and started walking towards the car, she stumbled and started to fall. I was watching her closely and saw that she was texting while walking and carrying a large amount of books and sports equipment. Amazingly, she continued texting as she was falling and subsequently broke her finger.

Her texting is definitely an addiction. I have to take her phone in order to have an uninterrupted conversation with her. I think your co-worker is in the same boat.

I would imagine this would be a problem for many people. Texting also seems to deteriorate our ability to use correct grammar. I've heard several middle and high school teachers complain of the quality of writing on papers. Students actually use similar abbreviations in papers to what they would use for texting. Outrageous.

She has issues of some kind. Don't know enough about texting to call it an addiction, though.

Yes, some of these kids take it a little too far. I agree with Dude- it promotes poor grammar and spelling as well.
