Do I have to update Vista with an XP office Service pack?

I just got a new pc that uses Windows Vista. I know this might be a silly question but I thought I was done with XP forever, but an automatic update came up to install windows xp service pack 3... Is this normal? To have a windows XP service pack on Vista?

I would think that if you are running office xp and its calling for the update then go ahead and install the update, It most likely is essential for that office software;

if its an xp service pack then compain to microsoft.
