Is this the right way to get prior service back into the reserves?

I am prior service with still a few years remaining on my 8 year obligation. I was four years active. I got a call from a career counselor and he said that I was being involuntarily transfered from the IRR into the reserves. I went up to his office, and he wanted me to sign my name. Now, if I was being involuntarily assigned to anything, I would have orders, right? He wanted me to sign up for the reserves, and then the orders would be made for me. I think he just told me that so I would sign up, thinking I had to. Does anyone have any experience with this? If the military wants me to go somewhere, I would get orders in the mail. I think he told me I was being transferred so I would sign on the dotted line, because he didn't even have orders. I wasn't assigned anywhere, HE was going to assign me to a unit. If I was being involuntarily assigned to a component in the Army, would that come from DA? Or do they let carreer counselors call up people from the IRR? It seems wrong to me.

And please don't flame me to death about you should do your duty without whining. It's not even about that. It's about someone I think tried to trick me, and I just want some feedback on that.

You are not obligated to sign. Yes, you will get orders if you are activated. He is trying to meet his quota. Get a hold of a retention officer and report him. HE WILL get in trouble for doing that. Please don't fall for it!!

What a couple others said, unless you get a call from some Colonel or some other high brass telling you to report to such and such station, you have orders, I wouldn't move.

Further, I would request that these orders be sent to be or faxed before I do move. Explain to him you thought someone tried to trick you and you're being safe. If it's legit, he'll do it.

It doesn't sound right to me. But then I'm no expert on this.

Call him back and ask for his full name, rank, and unit of assignment. Tell him you've been advised to contact your Congressman about this. See what he says. That will be an indicator.
