Burned out in the "service" industry. Need help.?

My whole life I have been in the 鈥渟ervice鈥?industry working as a bartender, waiter, bellhop,
concierge, and limo driver. I have tryed other careers such as construction, nursing, teaching,
sales, and office administration. I even went back to college to finish my BA degree in political
science and history--- thinking I wanted to go to law school to be an attorney. But frankly I
dont like working in an office cubicle or sitting at a desk(feels like prison) and I dont like
working outdoors either with dust and pollutants since I have asthma. I even thought of being a
flight attendant cause im moving around, meeting different people, but the pay is terrible not to
mention i dont like to fly that much. I was a teacher for a while and liked it, but managing kids is
way too stressful for me and I hate the 9-5 hours. Too boring. Nursing was good too, but
dealing with sick people was not for me at all. The hospitality industry has been the only fun
career and its the only industry where I am moving around on my feet, outdoors, indoors,
multitasking, dealing with people face-to-face and doing a variety of things to prevent boredom.
But I have no desire to go into hotel sales and hotel management.(long hours and boring). Is this
all my life is worth??? I have been working in the service industry for 15 years now and have a
college degree--there has to be more to life than this!! Frankly I am burned out on service. The
pay stinks. Can anyone suggest any careers that are fun, have good benefits, decent pay, and is
respectable career??

It sound like you tried several jobs and you seem to find fault with any job you tried. I think the key is to find a job you do well or which takes advantage of the skills that you have developed. Find a job that you are good at doing and your more likely to like it.

The first job that comes to mind was career counselor or some type of head hunter. I thinking if 15 years you seem to have had a lot of jobs, maybe you would be good at helping other find a job.

I was thinking what kind of jobs would allow you to complain and get paid for it. A critic or inspector job comes to mind.

There are many types of inspectors, Agricultural inspectors, construction and building inspectors, fire inspectors and investigators, occupational health and safety specialists and technicians, and transportation inspectors are just a few.

Many you want to look throught the Occupational Outlook Handbook and see if there is any jobs that appeal to you.
