Suppose you are starting an office-cleaning service. You have spent $315 on equipment. To clean an office, you use $4 worth of supplies. You charge $25 per office. How many office must you clean to break even?

After having bought equipement you have -$315

For each office you have spent $4 but charge $25 so you have a net gain of $21

To break even you have to make $315 worth of net gain

315/21= 15

You have to clean 15 offices to break even

$315 = equiptment
$ 4 = need to clean an office
$ 25 = income per office

N = number of office to be clean in order to break even
solution:

your expenses = income
your expenses = equiptment + supplies x no. office
your income = price x no. office

income = Your expenses
25 x N = 315 + (4)xN
25(N) - 4(N) = 315
21(N) = 315
N = 315 / 21

Ans = 15 rooms

$25 to clean the office. -$4 for supplies.

= $21 per office.
21x15 = 315. Therefore, you would break even on the cleaning supplies + Equipment. That'd answer your question.
