I just applied for this job and was wondering if it sounded like scam?

This is the add "START NOW Hamilton based company has openings in all departments: v Sales v Service v Office v Warehouse $2,750 monthly/$18.42hr to start All training provided for selected applicants. Call for Interview Mon. & Tue. Only 905-560-4888 "I went for an interview today and got the job. The company is called world wide industries and says they are rated "number one" in Canada. After searching on google for the company I cant find any information about them. They didnt tell me what I would be selling but when you call the number it says vacuum cleaners. They said they set all of the appointments up for me and the equipment I just go and sell the product. My first day is wednesday and I have to wear a dress shirt and tie etc. I was wondering if anyone has heard about this? Is this a scam? Is this a waste of my time?

I have not heard of this company.

Unless you are very good in selling vacuum cleaners, I think its a waste of your time. Most of the "appointments" are actually "cold contacts" and you have to do a "hard sell"

You'll be dragging vacuum cleaners up to people's houses and apartments, vacuuming their rugs for them, showing them how much dirt your cleaner got up, and trying to sell them the vacuum cleaner.

Your vacuum cleaner will cost five hundred dollars. (They could go buy one at Walmart for fifty bucks.)

You will last three to five days, and owe the company money when you quit in disgust.

This is interesting because I wonder if they asked for any evidence of sales ability.
If the job involves selling and if you are making major sales (not simple sales) the skill set is different.
I believe you should check out the requirement first. Also take a look at your comfort zone in making major sales.

Not a scam.. but definately not something you want to get into.. It will be rough and noone will buy anything.. you can find a more legitimate job that pays more working somewhere else... and plus.. a sales job without commision seems kind of like they are expecting you to fail.. if you want to be in sales.. find a sales job where you can make money off of what you sell.. 18.25 an hour is secure but if you are good.. you can make alot more money somewhere else!
