Question for front office coordinators, sales people, and all those in between...?

Do you like your job in sales? I have been working at this center where we conduct placement testing with children then it's up the parents as to whether or not they will sign their kids up with our program. I have had various office jobs without problems. However, my boss is always on me about following up, being a little cut throat on getting enrollments, and is just on me period about sealing the deal. I am NOT a sales person nor do I like to shove a service down people's throats when they CLEARLY are not interested. How does one deal? I do 2 follow up calls at most and I feel pressured by my boss to be on these potential clients. I mean what do you do when the people don't call you back??? It gets really frustrating! How many times do you follow up before deciding it's a NO GO? I was not told or made aware that this was going to be a part of my job. I feel sorry for telemarketers!!! And have a new found respect for them too!!!!

easy. you don't like sales. look for another job- not selling anything. BUT......
in the meantime WHILE you are still there here's what you do:
turn the sales call into a "counselor" type of call- where you are softly suggesting an idea to the parents to enrich their children's minds. you have to be able to make the parents think it's their idea.
the parents have to see/recognize/admit the VALUE of your services before they BUY into it.
so turn your approach around. act as if you are simply providing a learning environment for their kids.
Salesmanship is learned over long periods of time.
Your boss should have answers for objections you receive.
Every NO thrown your way is simply closer to YES.
It means the person needs more information about the service in order to make an intelligent decision.
Money will play the major objection.
Show the value ( stats from the placement center, Currently enrolled parents' feedback, etc)
unfortunately, it doesn't sound like you were given enough training.

good luck! Report It
