Should I quit or suck it up?

My grandma passed away yesterday.I came into work today to let them know when services are and which days I need off. My boss told me I could take off the rest of this week but services are next week. She said I couldn't have those days off because She will be off next week. She said she has plans already and can't change them. FYI: there is only 3 of us who work in the office 2 receptionists and the boss.

Do you work with me???????? LOL.

Seriously, though, I can't believe they would tell you that you can't be off for the services! That's horrible. My first instinct would have been to give my 2 weeks notice immedialtely after the words left her mouth!

I guess it comes down to a few things: Can you afford to be without a job while you look for a new one? Are you pretty sure you could find another job in your area? (I don't know about where you are, but the job market here sucks!) How have they been to work for before this?

Can the other person in the office not handle things while you go to a funeral? I was the only person in my office for over 6 months one time and I managed just fine.

I'm sorry for your loss and your bad job situation!

EDIT: If you received some sort of employee handbook when you started work there, I would reference it to see what it says about time off for funerals. They may be violating their own policy by not giving you the time off!

Man, I would quit!

I would quit. Sorry, but your grandmother is way more important than a job. You can always find another job, but you will never be able to get your grandmother back and this is the last chance for you to 'say goodbye' and get closure from her untimely death.

Tell you boss "I'm sorry Bosslady/man, but if you do not allow me to go to my Grandmother's funeral, I will no longer be able to be employed by you."
Or something to that effect. Maybe if he/she realizes that this is very important to you, and he/she might lose you as an employee- your boss will change his tune.

I am very sorry that your boss is putting you through this. I am also very sorry for your loss- my condolences go to you and your family.

I'm pretty sure you're allowed those days off. We have a legal poster at my work and it says the death of a loved one qulaifies those times off. I think.

Putting legalities aside, that is wrong is so many ways! Quit! Or complain to her higher authority. It doesnt matter if she gave you this week off. The services are next week, you need next week off.
