I'm curious. How many schools are coping with ineffective principals?

Our principal is gone most of the time. He is constantly away on seminars, conferences, and in-services. In addition, he goes home early or doesn't come in at all when he has the slightest cold. Therefore, he really is disconnected to the building. When he is at school, he shuts himself in the office and works on the computer most of the day. Sometimes he will spend the entire day working on some little project like a Valentine sack or a pair of oversized dice to use in a teacher's meeting. He had no idea that teachers need him and several students were sitting in chairs needing to conference with him. He doesn't like confrontation with parents or strong-willed staff members. He avoids them at all costs. He has often not backed his teachers. The instructional coaches, social worker, and the school psychologist are running the school, and they only have their own interest in mind. Our school has several behavior problems, 70% low SES, 30% ELL, & a high turn-over rate.

I think more than we know...this is especially true if your district superintendent is also a slug. He/she would be the one who would monitor your principal. Too bad...they make too much money to be so ineffective. And to think, there is a principal shortage. Think that might have something to do with it?

I am so sorry. That is so discouraging. I am lucky to be teaching in a school with an awesome Principal!
