Is 10 years of public service enough to be president ?

A graduate of Columbia University and Harvard Law School, Obama worked as a community organizer, university lecturer, and civil rights lawyer before running for public office and serving in the Illinois Senate from 1997 to 2004.
Obama was sworn in as a US senator on January 4, 2005 serving to present....

civil_av....

Who can have experience being president unless your running for a second term ?

You can't be experienced as president until you actually get the job.

Example...George Bush jr... went from Governor to President....

Romney had one term, 4 years, as gov of Mass. Rudy had 8 as mayor. Reagan and Bush also had 8 as governor. When papa Bush ran for president in 1980 he only had one term as a congressman. No one questioned the amount of experience of any of these candidates.

My problem with all of the candidates is that none of them have experience in the executive branch of the government.

Being governor of a state is executive experience.

and every since January 4 2005 he has been running a presidential campaign. He hasn't even had a meeting with the committee that he is the chairman of in over a year.

NO!

Yes we McCain 2008!

I don't know. How much do you think is enough? Give some guidelines. Where do we draw the line for public service requirements?

Yes, for some it is. For others 100 years is not enough, what counts is intelligence, reason, integrity, and the desire to build a better America.

so maybe Ted Kennedy should be president he has lot of experience

In fairness to Obama, if Hillary is going to pass off some of her excrement as "35 years of experience", then Obama should be entitled to pass off some of this loosely interpreted experience as well.

i half agree with you.

obama is definitely not ready to be president. even though he may be good on uniting the nation (supposedly) he`s definitely too immature to deal with foreign relations, his choices he presumes he`s going to put into action if he becomes president are a bit absurd and we should be scared. but no one really cares (the younger supporters of obama) because they don`t do their HOMEWORK> they just base their thoughts and opinions on the info the tv throws out at them. and tv=bull shisse! as we all know. but it just shows how ignorant we can be

Depends on what type of public service.

No, it is not about public service. It isn't where a person went to college. It isn't lecturing, it isn't sitting in the White House Rose Garden... it is enacting and supporting legislation that changes the US for the better!

Voting present is BS. Not writing legislation is not exactly a reference... and speech making is not experience either. The Hill talks about hard work, and has little or no record to support it either. Parisian blather? I think not. The only 2 candidates that actually have a lot of experience are McCain and Ron Paul. You can look over their Senate voting record here:

In a national election Obama's biggest problem is one of experience and McCain is going to eat his lunch. I am not saying that Obama is a bad guy. He needs to stay in the Senate and prove himself there and starting voting! Hillary, not only does she not have a lot of experience, but what she does have, is surrounded by scandal.

Yes we NOT mccain 2008!

I didn't realize that public service was a qualification to be president.
