I've not received my 2006 Federal returns. Is there any way to check other than calling IRS Customer Service?

I've moved back to India and on making repeated calls to IRS, I'm getting a reply that my information is not reflecting in their systems. Is there any means to reach the back office people to check? Also should i file for extension in this case?

The IRS representatives have queried their database and have not found your 2006 return. They do not have it. "Back office people" (whoever they are) won't change that fact.

If you sent the return when it was due a year ago, it was apparently lost in the mail or by the IRS. Unless you sent it certified or registered mail, you have no proof that you sent it. So you have little option except to file it again.

Go to http://www.irs.gov
Click on "Where's My Refund?"
You must enter your SSN, filing status, and exact refund amount.

The site will tell the status of your refund and if/when your refund will be mailed or deposited into your account.

If it does not come up, contact your tax preparer.

if you check on line you can google tax returns and they should have a phone number posted with a reason you haven't received it you will need the exact $ amount and status that you filed under and social security number when getting the information
