Ex (never married) has insurance card/information and refuses to give it to me. ??? |
He added her to his insurance plan when she was born. He has also reduced the amount of child support he has to pay (which is only $170 a month) to include half of what he pays for his premiums. 7 months later, I still don't have the insurance information, or a copy of the card. I have been taking her to the free health clinic for her vaccinations. The office of recovery services has the information and says the will mail it to us, although I haven't received it yet. My daughter is sick and needs to go to the dr. Can I call my ex's employer to get her insurance info? I figure since she is my daughter, and I can obviously provide her SS# and birthdate, that the privacy laws will allow. Update: The insurance company won't give us the information because I do not have the father's SS#. Her hospital visit was covered, but when we tried to use the same information, we found that it was rejected. ORS verifies that the coverage is active before they reduce the support amount. It looks like the information on the card changed (group, employer numbers etc. are often updated) . call the insurance company and have them fax over an additional card for you. otherwise get your own plan so you dont have to worry about dealing with his. also did he get the child support lowered legally? if not he has to pay you that owed child support. HIRE AN attorney and take him back to court What a... well, I'm not going to go there... All I'm going to say is he needs to start to become a father.... I doubt they will give it to you because you are not on the plan. That is not their call to make. You need to tell him he either gives you her insurance info or he gives you your full child support. Either way you need something from him or you can take him to court. Yes you can call his employer and he is responsible for providing health coverage. (above and beyond child support). If she is legally on his insurance, you should be able to access the information through his employer using her SS #. Assuming that you are her legal guardian. If that doesn't work contact a local official a senator or some other even smaller office and tell them your problem. I haven't met a politician yet who won't jump through hoops on something that has to do with kids and insurance ("looks good in the papers" know what I mean) That should get it cleared up quickly. And if your worried about making trouble for him, don't be worried, what kind of person would hold out on information when it comes ot the well being of his child. Good Luck! Take her to the doctor and have the bill mailed to his house, for all of her visits, don't take her to a free clinic. Then he can deal with the billing department for the doctor's office. If it's through his place of employment, call his employer and ask to speak to the benefits administrator. Don't tell him/her that your ex won't give you the info, just tell him/her that you need an extra card or the info. Tell them you forgot it, lost it, whatever, and that you didn't want to bother your ex with this but that you are about to walk into the doctor's office so could you get that info right now? you won;t have to pay because she is insured...and if you know the insurance company, just call them..they will give you the information because you are the mother...it's easy...all you need is an id number and the name of the insurance and you are good to go...do not need the card...good luck and sue that b*****d... If your doctor's office will verify the insurance prior to it being used, they surely will also request a copy of the card and give it to you. He seems like a total ****** and dealing with an ****** is tough. I say go around him anyway you can. You'll get your problem solved without ever dealing with him first hand... I have the same problem. You can take him back to court for contempt of court if it is in your custody papers.Other than that fuss and raise cain. Hopefully it will get better as she gets older. Tell him that he is only hurting your daughter. Also I pay all the doctor bills and he was collecting my refund checks. Good luck!! talk to the person who handles the billing in the doctor's office. Explain the situation (that you don't have the card because her father refuses to give it to you). See if you can do one of the following situations: Hire an lawyer and him play games with the lawyer & a family Court Judge...Good Luck. How do u get ur child support? is it through Child support enforcement? if not then i suggest u have it turned over to them.. child support enforcement can make him hold insurance coverage on your daughter and if he doesnt give u the info, then they will tack it onto his child support. |
