Is this position really for me? I am beginning to have doubts.?

Could it be that I am more an introvert stuck in a extrovert's position? I work as a Patient Service Representative at a Front Desk in a medical center, but what's even worse is that I'm a floater. I could be moved from any department in the clinic at any given time. At the front desk, I become very nervous interacting with strangers and patients, especially nasty ones. Unfortunately, these were the type of patients I mostly encountered over the seven-month course. They make me feel self-conscious, I try to maintain good self-esteem but it seems so hard.

I have a difficult time dealing with the general public. It has begun to hinder my performance to the point where I have been written up and reported to the Administration Office about 4 times. It is a position that involves a lot of multi tasking I graduated last May of 2007 with a degree in English. This was not what I had in mind, I believe I only took this position out of desperation, which wasn't wise, now I'm paying for it.

well if you're a float, then you have a chance to sample other kinds of jobs and see which one is right for you in the medical center and ask to be moved there...if you don't find anything, then just put up with it and start searching for jobs elsewhere or maybe another school to get a higher degree and take things slowly until you find what you like...

i had this same position working for a hospital in new york, the same title. i loved it. but if you aren't happy, no need to stay in it at all. you don't have to analyze yourself. you have the right to move on from any job. i envy you though. i liked that job. ps I was always being written up, almost daily. boss was a mental case.

With a degree in English, you could become a teacher,

Well if it isn't you should get out while you can with a clean record. If you are beginning to get written up then when you do move on you'll have that bad spot on your history. It is better to leave on good terms that get fired. That way you can use the experience on a resume. Perhaps you can explain to your employer that this is not your cup of tea and that you will bow out of the position, can he leave your file clean and positive for references.

you just graduated....stick it out one full year and then get a new job because right now is the only time you have to be jumpin around jobs...as you get older it looks bad, so do it now if you can...read "what color is your parachute"
i am in the same position as you. i have worked there almost 7 months and i can't wait to leave...i know this isnt the job for me. my bosses know it. unfortunately this lack of commitment is evident in my work. i am starting to think "what is the point of learning this if i dont intend to stick around much longer?!" but i mustnt htinkn that way.

we're in the same boat. i know that this job does not comply with my values or my life goals (this job is in finance and is considered a CAREER job with a plan for each year and i intend to be a lawyer....and NOT in finance, well, maybe not, but i am not sure yet!)
