I was offered to work in Bangkok with a THB 80,000 gross monthly salary. Any savings from this?

i was offered to work in Bangkok with a THB 80,000 gross monthly salary and i have to pay my own apartment. I'm single and I want to stay in a 1-bedroom unit at least 1 station away from my office. I wish I could stay in a serviced apartment. Do you think I can still save around THB 20k/month? Thank you so much!

i'm sorry. i think i confused you, guys. I mean THB 80,000 is still at its gross rate - meaning, taxes and other duties are not yet deducted from this amount. hence, not sure if i can still save some money. Our office is near Chao Phraya River.

Many condo apartments for rent in Bangrak which I believe is the area you are talking about, the skytrain station is the Thaksin Station. You can live a decent life on 80,000 baht even if its gross. I am surprise the company your going to work for is not going to help you find a place. Most company that recruit foreign workers take good care of their employees. Your living habits will dictate if you can save 20 thousand baht a month. Apartment could run you anywhere from 5,000 to 25,000 baht depending on your taste.

1 bed room apt can cost u roughly 20,000 baht for a cozy and nice env :)
if you are not driving around, transport on bts or mrt is literallly at most 3000baht.
food - if you eat wat the locals eat is only ard 150baht per day for three meals, inclusive of the local street freshly brewed coffee. movie is baht 140. if you shop for groceries like 3000baht per month .. and only uses around the amount i listed, yeah, u definitely can save 20k baht per month.

But if you are the big spender, living here can easily flushes your money away as fast as u earn them .... :)

depends on:
your rent
your eating habits; can you eat thai style?
your other needs
I'd say, yes, but you'll need to live frugally

80,000 B. is a big money here. u can stay with a good life and also can save some money every month.

but anyway it depends on where of bangkok u gonna stay, sukhumvit, silom area-cost of living quite expensive. some area as banglumpoo, phahonyotin, cost of living is okay not too high.

I agree 80,000 is good money here. However, you are really limiting yourself to staying one station from your work. It would be nice if you mentioned exactly where you would be working, so we could help define the rent in that area.

Ratchadapisek Road has many flats for rent for 4,500 to 5,000 bahts per month. This is large air-con room with a separate bathroom with toilet, sink and shower. There is usually a small outside patio with a sliding glass door off the main room.

You can get to Sukhumvit Road and surrounding areas quite easy from Ratchadapisek Road. It does not matter if you are one station away or two or three because each station is only minutes apart and not difficult at all.

With your rent you have to also include your utilities which are electric, cable TV if you want it, internet and I think most places provide the water. Electric for one room with air-con running when you are home should be well less than 1,000 baht per month. The flats land line home phone is probably going to be more expensive than a mobile phone so use a mobile phone instead. A full package of cable TV would be 1250 baht per month and less for basic cable if you wanted it. Last time I checked you could get wireless internet is most places for around 475 baht per month

So maybe all utilities to suit a single person would be around 2,000 baht per month.

Rent and Utilities 5,000 + 2,000 = 7,000 baht and that leaves 73,000 baht left over for food and transportation.

I would estimate the BTS/MRT would cost you average 60 baht per pay and if you work 6 days per week, 4 weeks per month this is 24 days X 60 baht = 1,440 baht

73,000 - 1,440 = 71,560 left over

Laundry (washing clothes - most flats have coin operated laundry at 30 bahts per load) 2 loads per week x 4 weeks per month = 240 baht per month

71,560 - 240 = 71,320

71,320 baht per month for food and entertainment and shopping and savings is allot of money for Thailand.

I cannot see any reason at all why you cannot save at least 20,000.

71,320 - 20,000 savings = 51,320 and that is still a huge amount per month for food, shopping, entertainment.

You can get your hair and nails done every week, have a massage, etc.

I think you can achieve all your goals and still have a really great time with no financial worries.

Good look

Your one lucky girl, that's a big money for a single. My husband was paid just like that and we are able to save 30% of it . We have four children and we lived in a flat 10k baht including utilities. Our food budget is 20k baht a month , that is family of six huh, kids are 15,12,10 and 9.
I think you can save more than 20k baht. Do not cook just eat outside ,you can save more electricity and water.
I am so excited for you, really , good for you Congratulations.

You can also enjoy wireless internet for 500baht unlimited.

Tax is only 7%. You will find out what we are saying when you get there.Normal salary of locals are only 30k baht.

You should comfortably be able to live on that and have money left over.

You can go further out and save on rent - but then you have a longer commute (not wirth it in my opinion but that's just me).

Really it depends on you and what you think constitutes "living". I think you could actually have a great life, plenty of social activities, decent apartment and some travel on 60-70K a month. Some people live quite happily on 35k a month and some on even less.

If you manage your money properly you should be able to.
