Diabetics are denied Govt. job?

In india govt. jobs are extremely hard to get. My brother got one after years of struggle and labour. That proves he is mentally and physically fit, well educated and can do the required services in a civillian govt. job well for years despited his illness - he is diabetic.

But the govt. has declared him unfit (for a civillian post)only because of his diabetes metillus, otherwise he has been found fit in the medical test.

Do u agree with the decision of the govt.? should we challenge it in the court? otherwise the govt. has denied him the right to live with dignity. if he is really unfit for a civillian office job, isn't he supposed to be unfit for earning his living in any other field, as the govt. thinks?

That's BS if you ask me but your laws are different than the US. If you can challenge them in court and are willing to go through the process, I say go for it. This is how laws are changed and will do all the people of your country good.

I think this sounds very unfair, but I don't know that diabetes would stop him doing his job or not. If he were to - say, 'pass out', how would that affect his collegues at his work place? I am an electrician, if I had a similar condition it would certainly limit how well I could do my job.

I can't comment on whether or not you could fight it successfully, because I don't know your laws.

In the USA, we have several laws that ptotect people with various disabilities- the rehab act of 1973 and the ADA, which went into effect (mostly) in 1992.

These state that a person cannot be eliminated from a job or not hired based on evidence of a disability.

If he can do the functions of the job, he should not be declared unfit for a job solely because he is diabetic. People with diabetes can work like anyone else, they just need to manage their blood sugars on the job. Sounds like he's not getting a fair shake, but this isn't in the USA, so I don't know if you have any grounds for complaint.
