I'm afraid to use my health insurance.?


Every time I have tried use my health insuranceI I get billed a month later by the doctors. I have tried to ask the Dr's office if the visit will be covered and they are basically saying "maybe".
I have called the insurance company and tried to find out which visits are covered and asking if they can recomend a doctor to make sure that it will be covered. They say they can't do that.
I feel that I need a lawyer or proffesional insurance person to receive the coverage that I am paying for. Are there services that help with comunications with insurance companise?

Where did you get this policy? If you used an agent, which I hope you did, have him or her explain what you bought. Some policies cover routine doctors office visits others don't, your agent can explain that to you.

If it is a group policy you can check with your HR department to help you understand what is and is not covered by the policy. If your company is too small for an HR department ask your employer who the agent is for the group insurance.

If all else fails call the insurance company but don't ask them to recommend a doctor instead ask for two things - A list of doctors who participate as preferred providers and a copy of your policy.

If you are going to a doctor that is out of network on your plan, you will pay more for that visit. Even if you are going to an in network doctor, you have a co-pay you are responsible for. The doctor charges $x for a visit - the insurance company decides he should only be paid $x for that visit - he can either accept the insurance payment as payment in full or he can bill you for the unpaid amount. That's why you keep getting bills.

The problem here is that you have a crummy insurance company. Anyone who works for the insurance company should be able to tell you what is paid for and what isn't. If they can't do that, then why are you paying premiums? If this insurance is provided by your employer, go to Human Resources and have them call the insurance company while you are in the office so that you can get to the bottom of the problem. There is no excuse for the poor service you've been receiving.

You need to get out your insurance policy and read it. You should have gotten one when you signed up for your insurance. If they won't give you one then you should contact the department of insurance of your state. If what you say is true then you should cancel your policy and find new insurance.

WOW! ask your insurance companies for a list of doctors that they cover and a list of procedures and types of doctors visits that they cover. That will help you out. They can't recommend a doctor, but they CAN give you a list of doctors covered under their plan and you'll have to pick one yourself. Good luck with that. Insurance can be so frustrating.
