What would a man do in this situation?

Since I am one of only a few women in my position in my company, I want to be sure that I don't act too "girly" or "bitchy." I need to handle this like a man.

Anyhow, today I found a list of top-performing offices in the company based on customer service improvement year to year. The office I was running prior to my promotion in November got the Number 1 spot. The guy who took over is listed as the top performer for the year, even though he only worked the office for 2 months!

So what would a man do? Congratulate the "winner" for a hard earned year, or go to the boss and point out the error? I don't want to make a huge issue out of this, but a little recognition for working as hard as I do should not be too much to ask. Actually, I don't think I should have to ask.

As an ignorant male, I can only offer a caveman answer. But I don't think it should matter if you are male or the other one.

1) What is the benefit of being number one?...
Bonus, raise...? If yes, see question 2.
If no, congratulate the other guy, ask him about how specific members of the team are doing, particularly ones you may have coached or invested in, and tell him how glad you are the team is working out for him.

2) If there is money involved, ask how the rankings were done. If it is a strictly a team based yearly performance thing, ask if it wouldn't make more sense to do an weighted average of the monthly numbers with specific credit given for increases in productivity, however that is measured. Here is where you channel the inner geek.

Remember don't just complain but always come to the table with a solution that an impartial observer can see is a better way to motivate the entire team, not just meet your narrow self interest.

But me just caveman UG!! Now where me put big woman stick.

If your boss already knows that you were the reason for the good results, than no mention is needed. Do you get any financial consideration for the title? If so, then by all means point out the error.
