Lawyer from Ontario B.C. sent me papers threatening court legit?

I have an old credit card debt with capital one. Its saying I owe 1,188.71. Its been about 6 or 7 years ago. I got a letter in the mail from a lawyer stating that she has been retained to get the monies owed. It says if your payment isnt received at her law office in 10 days the next communication may be in service on you of a Statement of Claim. Inside is 3 pages of what look like court documents. There are no details to why i owe or anything. But it has a place that i can obtain forms or assist in filing a defense at a website in Ontario. If this was legite would it not have been sent registered mail? Something that I would have to put my signature too?

It says Draft under claim number on the first of the 3 page court documents. And a printed red circle under the heading of the paper that says Superior Court of Justice that says draft too on it. These again were not served.

This debt is too old for them to collect. Ignore the letter and trash it. Don't answer it. If you make a payment it will make the statute of limitations start running all over again. As of now, there is NOTHING they can do to you. It is even too old to be put onto your credit record.

Debts that old are bought for 5 cents on the dollar. Any money they can collect from anyone foolish enough to pay is just pure profit.

Get a lawyer.

If you don't pay - or make payment arrangements - and she sues you, then the actual summons would be sent by a process server.

I think you better pay the debt as soon as possible. You can ignore it, if you dare. However, if you owed quite a bit of money, she will after and nail you until you pay the debt in full. How she nail you? She can make you never can get a good job. Or she can take money out of your bank account equal to the debt you owed plus interest. If you really don't have money, that's okay.

That sound fishy to me. Since when lawyers collect old debt. It's usually the collection agency. You need the details of your account to see if it's legitimate. Call Capital One and check with them first. Also google the lawyer to see if she is legit.
