Am I kidding myself thinking I can get into Brown, Georgetown, Boston College, Tufts, etc.?

I'm a high school junior in IL. I'm 13th in a class of about 500 (top 2.6%), I have an unweighted GPA of 4.0, weighted of 4.3, ACT score of 33, I haven't taken the SAT yet, but I got a 196 on the PSAT. I play tennis and played soccer freshman and sophomore year but I'm not continuing it this year. I'm a student council representative and a very active member of a community service club (if all goes right, I'll be inducted into NHS later this spring as well). I'm also a tutor. I'm a member of a student leadership advisory board sponsered by my Rep. to the US house of Representatives and have appeared in a Public Service Announcement sponsered by the board (I also volunteer at his campaign office). Just wondering if I've got the goods to make it into some top tier schools. Thanks!

Hi Emmy,

You are absolutely not kidding yourself at all. Those numbers and your qualifications are awesome!

Ranking 13th is excellent, and you will find that most Ivy Leagues are fairly selective and prefer that you score in the top 10% of your graduating class. 94% of the accepted students at Brown, for example, were in the top 10%.

Your ACT score is also very strong. While you will have to take the SAT II subject tests, it may not be necessary for you to even take the SAT I. An ACT composite score of 33 corresponds to SAT I scores of approximately 2220-2270. Brown's 75th percentile score on the SAT is 2290, which means your ACT score is very competitive there.

Along with your sports, student council, and service clubs, you are overall a very good candidate for the top Ivy leagues. Given that you are at or above the 75th percentile for both your GPA and ACT scores for Brown, I'd say you have a very good chance there. Your odds at Georgetown, Boston, Tufts, and many other Ivy Leagues are very good as well.

You've done a good job. Congratulations and good luck!

You are definitely not kidding yourself. In fact, you may be able to reach even higher, if your record continues to be this strong. I think you have an excellent shot - congratulations!

Yo have a pretty good shot. Now do well on your SATs and you are good to go!

I think the two previous answers say it all. You can check out individual universities here:

Thanks

Wow you will definitely be able to go to those colleges. Your gpa is high and your extracurriculars are pretty high. I don't think you need to take the sat since you've already taken the act, and you act is really high. best of luck!

No, you're not kidding yourself at all! You might even be HYP material! (Harvard-Yale-Princeton). You seem very well-rounded. I personally think you could have done better on PSAT, but hey, I'm no good at test-taking either. Keep going for those colleges and more, you'll go far in life if you keep it up. ;-)
