9 weeks pregnant and UTI?

I am about 9 weeks pregnant and I am pretty sure that I have a UTI that started yesterday. It is Saturday so my Drs office is not open. I called anyway to see if there was a paging service, but the only option is for a medical emergency. i have no idea if this is considered an emergency or not. It is not bothering me too bad. I could wait until Monday when the office opens - but I don't want to take any chances with the health of the baby. Can Iwait until Monday or would this be considered an emergency? I would rather wait and not have to sit in an emergency room - but if that is what I should do I will do it.

Thanks!

Thanks! I used the emergency number and the doc said it was a good thingthat I calledand that she would call in a prescription for me. I feel alot better knowing that I am getting this taken care of and that I didn't have to go to the ER.

Early on UTI's are common...elevated blood levels of progesterone cause the smooth muscle in your ureters to relax, and urine stagnates and gets infected. Also, later in pregnancy, the uterus presses down on the ureters where they cross into the pelvis, causing more stagnation, and further increasing the risk of infection. If you have another UTI during this pregnancy, your doctor will probably want to start you on medicine to take every day to prevent further UTIs, because UTIs can place you at risk for preterm labor. For now get to the ER or Call the emergency NUMBER AT THE LEAST SO THEY CAN GET YOU AZO OR OTHER MEDS!
Goodluck

I wouldn't say thats really an emergency but you definitely need antibiotics.

I had a UTI and was told, since my doc couldn't see me for a few weeks to get to the ER ASAP. UTI's can cause a miscarriage and/or pre-term labor. PLEASE, for the sake of your child, cancel your plans for the day and get to the ER. They'll fix you right up! Good Luck and please take my advice.

Alot of areas have an urgent care center which is affiliated with the local hospital. It's for trying to see the doctor if you couldn't get an appointment. Call your hospital and see what the nearest one is. Don't let the UTI get too bad, (which can happen overnight). I think it can have an affect on the baby especially if it moves into your kidneys. If you ever have the pain in your back call or see a doctor immediately. I had a UTI when I was 14 weeks pregnant and had to go to the E.R. Don't take any medicine your obgyn has not already approved.

My friend had cronic UTI's and then she got pregnant. She got one at 9wks also, but she was peeing blood by the time the day was over. Her doc put her on the prescription azo, it had less meds for pregnant women and she was fine. So if your not in too much pain and its not progressing rapidly I would wait until you can see your doc.

I would go to the ER just to be on the safe side. There is way to many risks that can be avoided. I dont really know if it could wait, but the baby is more important now.

I am so glad you contacted your doctor. I had a bladder infection but I had no symptoms of it and I have never had one before. I went to the hospital becuase I was having contractions and it turns out they were triggered by a bad bladder infection. I was 25 weeks then. After two seperate sets of antibiotics it finally cleared up but the contractions have never stopped ans I have been on bedrest and medication the entire time. Better safe than sorry.
