Do you see the sexism toward our woman candidate & are you comfortable with it?

-They refer to her by her 1st name. No one refers to Barack or John or Mike, etc.
-If she shows emotion (sad/happy/mad, whatever) it is negative headline news. When Obama is mad, Bush cries or McCain is victorious they are driven, sensitive &justifiably pleased.
-Because she is seeking leadership of our nation, she is alternately portrayed as power hungry, only doing it to get her husband back in, or pursuing the presidency for devious reasons like lining her pocket book. Obama, McClain & male candidates are perceived as running for office because of a life long need to fulfill civic responsibility & public service.
-If Hillary defends her daughter, she is being hysterical & unreasonable. If Obama defended his girls, he would, no doubt, be considered a doting papa....to be admired.

A recent post noted that crowds jeering, "shine my shoes boy" to Obama would be, justifiably, treated w/ outrage. Why is no one outraged by "iron my shirts" jeering?

*ADDED: Anyone answering this, please check out Rinney11's response...better hurry, I reported it....It is a great example of what I'm writing about ;)

I was so outraged by it, I entered comments to Cafferty on CNN several times and they weren't very nice. He's really bad. I guess you heard about Shuster on MSNBC being suspended for his sexist remark and the guy on hardball said Hillary's run for the presidency was due to her husband being a philanderer. They talked about an invisible tear in her eye saying that's what won Massachusetts.

I feel so bad for this woman who is giving it her all and doing an excellent job, who is passionately seeking the presidency because I really believe she has what it takes to be the president but people are still making jokes about her. You have to expect a few idiots in the crowd but I would expect the major media networks to know better. They don't though. I can hardly stand to watch cable news anymore. They have to be loosing viewer over their attitude.

Obama gets a pass on anything he says, but if Hillary acts political, she gets the shaft. Very sexist.

I agree. Hillary is a serious candidate, far more qualified than Obama, and gender bias is coming into play here.

I think more people would have respect for a woman running for president if she did so based on her own merits and not because of who her husband happened to be. If her husband wasn't an ex president, no one would know or care who she was.

Stop crying, Hillary is not you, nor I, she is fake, and will do anything to rip your heart out, if it meant she could steal this election. Don't be so naive.

I don't know what you are talking about. I support Barack, not Clinton. Clinton was behind the whole "Iron my shirt" gag. She was trying to engineer votes.

Do you see the age discrimination against McCain when people point out his age? No one points out Hillary or Obama's age.

Your first point - There are more than one Clinton so you can't just say 'Clinton'. People wouldn't know if you are talking about Bill or Hillary unless you clarify.

Your second point is just dumb.

Third - Everyone used to kid that she was running the White House during the time Bill was president. And here she comes again. Seems like power hunger to me. McCain hasn't been in the white house yet...neither has Obama.

Fourth - Never heard anything of that issue.

I totally agree, it drives me crazy!!

the first name thing happens becuase Hillary likes it that way, though.

How about have you ever let Bill use you as an ashtray? ..........I'm telling mommy on you What is amazing is you think you can lead......you little one are a great example of a little girl, who should not be allowed to make a decision on your own Find a nice boy to take care of you ....Now you are one of those who say to yourself ''he doesn't like me because he doesn't like strong women'' From your reaction any can see you are weak What I posted.while distasteful.was true and did happen and many of us find it unbelievable that she is with him Think about it Be careful or you well find yourself alone, angry old women

People are saying Hilary is running to line her pockets b/c she is. It has nothing to do with sexism, her and Bill just want more and more power and more and more money. The situation will inevitably be awkward b/c it isnt exactly a normal event.

Because race trumps gender. Period.

I agree there is much sexism. However, there is much racism too. People have referred to Barack Obama as Osama and of course Bill Clinton's remarks in South Carolina.

Yes I see sexism toward Hillary and yes I am comfortable with it. I don't care if it's politically correct to have a woman in the White House. I'm not going to vote for this one.

I agree with you.. I am disappointed with 2 facts:

1. A large number of women, many of which don't realize they're not threatened as equal to men, dislike Sen. Clinton just because of her being smart and very competent. I think this is the best time for US to have a female president.. she is well qualified.

2. There are much more of men who are considered "chauvinistic pigs" in this country. They hate intelligent women.

no, it isn't because she is a woman it is because she is evil, unqualified and harbors too much baggage. she is just not likeable at all.

I don't think the problem is that she is a woman. I think the problem hillery has is who she really is.

Yes, I see it. No, I don't like it. Republicans will sink to any depth to paint the opposition badly. Look at how many Trolls on Y!A imply the Obama is a Muslim.

Republicans as a party have no civility. Hillary is not alone. Look at what was done to John Kerry who volunteered to go to Vietnam, volunteered to join the special forces (Army Rangers) one three purple hearts and other medals while fighting in combat and he was Switftobaoted as a traitor. Almost all of the people who made the charges never fought in the military.

If Obama becomes the Democratic candidate their will be racist attacks unheard of since blacks were slaves.

Hillary is getting the brunt of the attacks because she is feared. She could win.

As this election unfolds you will discover that there is no depth that Republicans won't sink to.
*******************************
Notice how many of the worst sexist attacks come from women above.

They call her Hillary because she is so well known, they refer to Rudolph Giuliani as Rudy

Yes, I see it, and no, I'm not comfortable with it. The reaction to her letting a bit of emotion into her voice (after having been called cold, heartless, robotic, and I don't know what all) was pretty amazing. (I was arguing that it might have been the best thing that could have happened to her.)

I think the first-name problem is as much about her sharing the name of the most recent ex-President as anything else, though.

"Iron my shirts"? My gosh, I've been missing some stuff, I guess. That's gotta register high on anyone's jerk detector.

For one thing whenever people think of Clinton they think of Bill and Monica. That is why Hillary is used not Clinton. Gender has nothing to do with things that happen to her. She lacks real experience but tries to convince others she has more to offer than broken promises. Lets not confuse the Chelsy incident with real political issues. Excuses have been a stepping stone for the Clinton's for too long. She needs to stand on her own and face the music.

Okay. I go to an all-womens college. I am a die-hard believer in the equality of women and men. But I still do not think that Hillary is acting in an acceptable way for a man OR a woman. The crying was focused on because it seemed very, very manipulative--she cried the day before the NH primary, AND the day before Super Tuesday. I don't know if you recall Howard Dean--he 'whooped' and got very emotional/hyper when he was running, and he was dumped on for it. I believe he eventually dropped out.
Regarding naming--from what I've heard, many people say "Bill" instead of Bill Clinton (even before Hillary was really in the picture); a LOT of people say Barack.
Yes, some people are ridiculously sexist--but it's not worse than what Barack, as a black (or half-black, however you wish to see him) man has had to deal with.

And regarding the possibility of a 'shine my shoes' comment--yes, people would be outraged, because race is very sensitive. Yes, women are objectified, do not earn equal pay, do not have (all of) the same opportunities as men. But women were not enslaved. They were mentally and/or emotionally enslaved, but blacks were physically and emotionally enslaved. Women may have been--and continue to be--objectified. But I feel that black people in this country have been treated worse than white women, and it was--and is--more of an uphill battle for them.

I see it, and I am comfortable with it.

I speak as woman who has spent a lifetime supporting womans rights, helped countless women in their personal, and professional I will not support Hillary Clinton.
Women are in awe at the prospect of a woman becoming President. We need a GREAT woman to lead this country. We will set womens progress back 100 years if she is elected. I am so disappointed in the women who are voting for Hillary because she is a woman. It is clear many females out there are crossing a dangerous line and outrivaling men with their sexist opinions. Give it up. be smart, wait for the right woman who will rise to the level of dignity, sound judgement and resposible non self serving decisions. The first woman President, like it or not will have to be better than any guy out there. Hillary has served for many years and has an average non impressive record in the years she has served.Stop focusing on all the "GIRLY" stuff and read about her. Demand answers to her hidden agendas, files she can't or won't produce. flip flopping. What has she REALLY done for women, blacks, hispanics, the poor, the middle class?Constant inconsistency of her positions... changing as the winds blow or the polls read! She is a nightmare and will ruin the feminists cause and ruin our economy. We cannot afford further financial chaos. Final word...I am more concerned that women are focusing on stupid remarks and not on the core issues. Ignore the foolish remarks, and stop the reverse sexist behavior...it does not serve our cause. My husband irons my blouses and would laugh it off as any adult male or female would if a snide remark was made about such trivia.Time has come to rise to a higher level . Can we? Yes we can.... without Hillary Clinton.

it would be great to have a female president, or, a black president. however, HC is a power monger as well as a socialist that has to have it all her way. and she talks two different lines out of her mouth at one time, depending on which groups she is then concerned with. yes, she wants the power and she wants to treat the underlings like they are spit, they way she did as first lady. her husband, bill, wears a halo, but do not be fooled: there are about 100 unexplained and mysterious deaths attached to the times way back when he governed arkansas. i'd have more respect for HC if she had divorced her philandering husband rather than stick it out with him so the two of them, with 4 feet, would walk into the oval office and create a mess that will worsen the mess we are in today.

as for BO, well, he is all right, it's just that when you look at his voting record in illinois, see how often he did not vote. he has no experience. he talks a great line and singers that all look like they walked off of a TV set (no middle class americans, no fat people, no elderly) have made a youtube clip called "we can." what is that that they can? what?

ron paul is the man. he's the man this country has needed since we lost it all when JFK was assassinated. we need to rebuild american, for us, for americans. read the constitution, read commentary about it, read the bill of rights, go to www.ronpaul.com, read what is going on in his head, listen to him, look in his eyes. they are calm and genuine. he has nothing up his sleeve. he isn't running for the glory or power or money or big business or future lectures. he stands for liberty and freedom, here, at home, first. that's why HC isn't getting my vote. she is a dictator. everyone hates her, but i do not think because of her sex.

go ron paul!
