I think my dog broke her leg and vet isn't open today. I need help??

I have a 3/4 pug who since last night has had not been putting any weight on her back right paw. I called her vet whom said to bring her in today but forgot to tell me thant the office is closed on wednesdays! (I do understand it was late at night and he was being patient with me and i was upset). Should I call the doctor emergency service again or should I wait till tomarrow. I am just afraid of causing permenate damage. I tried to feel her leg and ahe does not whine or bark at me. I checked her paws and nails and they both seem to be fine. She jsut doen't put her leg down and she will shake a times to.(I think it is the pain).

Should i call the vet again or wait till tomarrow?

call the vet again. or find one that's open on wednesday's. many are. in the meantime keep her calm and quiet, make sure the leg she's holding up is still warm and she will move it when you touch the paw. you want to make sure there's no nerve damage. i'm sure she's in pain or she wouldn't be holding up her leg. find a vet that's open to at least get some pain meds and have the leg splinted if it needs to be. good luck.

Call the vet again. Maybe they will even make a "house call" just to check on the dog, and give you an idea of what could be wrong with its leg. I wouldn't wait on this, the dog is in pain if it is not walking on that leg. If the vet can't see you, bring her into an emergency vet care clinic. Good luck, I hope she's alright :D

well she's probably just walking on three legs right..? so shes not really doing any more damage...i'd personally try and take her in, but as long as she's eating and drinking normally you might be able to get by with taking her in tomorrow.

but if your leg were broken wouldn't you want to go in..?

You need to either call your vet, or find another vet to see your baby today. A broken leg, if not set, can get worse and cause deformity.

Two options. Take her the the Pet ER, or take her to another Vet that is opened today. You will save money by taking her to another local Vet. Do not wait until tomorrow in case it is broken. It may be something simple they can treat with some pain medication or anti-inflammatory.

just make sure she has plenty of rest and try to wrap her leg up. you should take her to the vet tommorow and until then, she should be fine. as long as she stays laying down and off the the injured leg, then she should be okay until a vet is reached

try to call agen and make sher to be jentle with the puppy it will look mlike it is not in pain becus it is trying to hide but call and make apiontment.
personaly i think the vet shoold always be open for things like this.
if you know a good dog traner then call him and see wat he knows.
hope it helps,
and i reely meen hope.
i got 2 dogs my self if enything happend to them then i wold pay eny money to git them beter.

They have an emergency line for this exact reason!

Definitely call again & get him in today

Very bad idea to wait till tomorrow. First thing...call the emergency vet (there HAS to be a vet with an emergency line within 60 miles of you) then take her.

There should be an emergency vet in the area, if your own isn't available. Try there.

And if your vet said bring her in, do so: I used to have a vet that would in fact come in i the middle of the night, if my kitty was sick.

Good luck!

If you had broken your leg would you want to wait a day to get it checked out?
Go to a different vet or the emergency vet, RIGHT NOW!

I think you should definitely call your vet, however, if you can't get in to see a vet until tomorrow, don't fret.

First if you don't have any popsicle sticks, go to the store, buy you some either just the stick or a few popsicles. While you there, get athletic wrap (the kind you'd put on a sprained ankle).

Place two popsicles on either side of the leg and wrap the athletic wrap (or just some long strips of cotton cloth or old panty hose) around the sticks a few times then wrap the entire leg. If you can, make sure the popsicle sticks extend beyond the foot to take off any additional weight.

This is only a temporary fix and the bones will not start healing so immediately that there will be irreversible damage. The dog is liable to be in pain as anyone would be with a broken bone but get him to a vet as soon as you can.

Some towns do have emergency vet clinics. Check your yellow pages.

It's probably not her leg, it's her knee. Keep her confined to a crate so she doesn't hurt it worse. If she is simply holding it up and walking on the other three with no known injury, it's a luxated patella.

Was there an accident? A fall?
If there was no injury, then it's a luxated patella.
Call about giving her a baby aspirin or half a one, and keep her confined to reduce swelling and pain.
If you can manipulate the leg without her crying, and she just won't walk on it, then it's her knee. Not a big deal, but painful.
