A large Malaysian marketing organisation based in Kuala Lumpur is required to transmit a large amount of product information, sales data, facsimiles, etc to 10 other cities in Malaysia. Each city location has their own server and computers and most send volumes of sales data back to head office. Response time is not critical in this application.
Required to :
1)Select the most suitable transmission media for this network
2)Name the possible public services to use,
3)Advice on the topology for the selected network.

For each of the above,give the advantages and disadvantages of using them.The students are advice to use as many diagrams as possible to support their answers.

I'm not sure what sort of infrastructure they have in Malaysia but I can try and help.
1. I'd say DSL, v.92 or ISDN
2. Phone Provider? Internet Service Provider?
3. Hub and spoke. The HO can be the hub and the branches can be the spokes. As data is not transmitted between the branches a hub and spoke topology will suffice. Hub and Spoke is also called "star" topology.

1) Ethernet or optical fibre. They use ten giagbit ethernet for business applications I think. A lot of companies are connected to ten gigabit through peering, so ethernet should do just fine. (Look up pipenetworks or WAIX (Western Australia Internet Exchange). Now for long distances I would probably use fibre, because they are more reliable. Optical fibre are pretty expensive compared to ethernet (copper).
2) What do you mean?
3) Star topology, this means each computer has a dedicated connection to the server, so if one of the connections fail it would not bring down other computers.
For mission critical applications use fully connected. This means that when one of the connections to a computer (clients) fail, it will still be able to redirect to a different route to the destination as there are more than one way from a -> b.
