State workers?

Why is it that anyone who works for the state such as at the secretary of state, social security office, dept. of human service, dept. of labor, etc..why are they always SO rude? They are always in a hurry to get you out of their line, or off the phone. And half the time they spell things on your important documents such as marriage license incorrectly? I can't imagine working for the state would be such a horrible job. And I am sure it pays well too. Everytime I have to contact any of the state depts. I dread it because they always hire the same kind of people, very rude and short with you. They try to make you feel as if you're stupid. And I am not the only person who feels this way, everyone I have talked to about this says the same things as I. What is with this?

no, i am actually a very patient and friendly person, very appreciative & say thank you, etc. as are most of the people I have spoken to about this & they agree that state workers generally treat people like sh*t. It really doesn't matter who you are or how you talk to them, they don't care.

The biggest problem is they hire too few people for the volume of paper work... and of those, many fear the loss of their jobs on a regular basis, to automation and downsizing for lack of funds. If it continues, remind them that you are there for a reason, and that their jobs exist to serve the public.

It`s called political B.S. You can just imagine some of the "DOOZIES" Deval Patrick appointed.

I guess I would be pissy too if someone approached me with that attitude.

Blanket generalizations never make good arguments.

I think it's because every person they come in contact with, thinks they are the "only" person who needs help. I'll bet that you are not courteous or wanting to wait for a solution to your problem. Many callers blame the employee for rules that they must go by when handling problems.
