Should I risk my character for a job.. ?? |
I have a job working at a corporate tax preparation office and recently had a client who I thought was being charged too much for the services... upon bringing this up to my boss, he took the defensive and said prices are what they are and I need to present them as such. It takes 10 years to build a reputation and only 10 minutes to lose it. Do not make this exchange. It's a bad deal and I am sure there are much better companies that will appreciate knowledgeable and honest employee. If you really believe that the company is overcharging clients and that clients are not being treated well, then you need to start looking elsewhere for employment. You should not compromise your ethical or customer satisfaction standard for any reason. They are part of what makes you the person you are and you won't be happy if you do. Find a new job if you don't want that one..but I'd find a new job before I'd leave that one. In this particular case, I'd side with the manager. Just charge the client what the prices are. You're not doing anything illegal or unethical. It's really up to the client to decide if the prices are too high. think about these specific circumstances. Is it an isolated case or consistent, how do other companies compare for the same services? Keep in mind professional services are not cheap and most business customers would be comparison shopping before selecting your firm's services. whoa that's a tough one -I think I would start looking for a new job. Good for you for having the integrity to bring this up to your boss. He should know if he loses you, you are going to talk - he may up your pay but don't allow that to happen. Your character is worth everything and is not for sale. good luck -I feel for you -I really really do. We need more honest people in this world and I admire you for your character. |
