Gym Membership Problem?

OK I know there are loads of these questions but I have to ask it. I joined a local gym and went once so I wrote to them instructing them to cancel the direct debit, which they did.

I am now been written to constantly by a fee collection agency (Ashburn Financial Services) threatening legal action etc so I retorted that I would contact the Financial Ombudsman etc should the payments still be requested however they still write to me asking for money.

The OFT (Office of Fair Trading) have already made them change the contract saying that the membership will be suspended if I fail to make a payment within 30 days. (See http://www.oft.gov.uk/advice_and_resourc...

What is your advice and could this affect my credit rating? Thanking ye x

Did you sign a contract? some gyms require members to sign a 1 yr membership. this mean they own you for one yr.

easy - tell your doctor you have a bad back. he/she will write to confirm this and if you present this to the gym or collectors they will be forced to cancel your membership on medical grounds.
