I am a soldier deploying, can i file my taxes right now and get and advance at a tax service office?

i am a soldier deploying at the end of the month (december). is it possible for me to file my income tax in advance rather than file them halfway across the world during tax season?. Do they have those kind of services for soldiers?

You don't have your W-2 yet, so you cannot file your income taxes. Also, you have 180 days after you return to file your taxes...so you don't have to worry about that while you are serving. When you are still in training in CONUS, this issue will be addressed thoroughly.

I didn't mention before that I am married to a 32 year Army veteran who has deployed many times, so I am familiar with the income tax issues...I file our taxes every year and am confident that I am giving you the correct answer.

Yes, you can file your taxes now but you will need to have for w-2 form. They will give you that usually at the beginning of the year. Ask your employer if they can expedite one earlier.

You can't file now - the forms aren't even ready yet. But if you'll be in a combat zone, you will have an automatic extension until 180 days after you get back. Be safe.

If you aren't in a combat zone, filing remotely shouldn't be a problem.

You certainly can get your tax papers in order, including a 2848 Power of Attorney form so your wife can sign the return for you. Then when the tax forms are available, she can fill them out, sign them and send them in.

As stated, you cannot file before January 1, but you can sign a power of attorney and have your spouse file for you, or file from where you are stationed.

The loans against your refund are most likely not going to be available to you, because of the recently enacted Military Lending Act, which prohibits active duty military, their spouses and dependents from taking certain types of loans, including refund anticipation loans, title loans, and payday loans.
