Should some sort of service to our country be mandatory?

I don't mean military necessarily, but other forms of service as well. It could be the peace corp, some state office, government service or position or something like that. NOT JUST THE MILITARY! It seems like JFK's quote "ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country" has fallen by the wayside. Everybody expects something, but they don't want to give anything up. I've served my time, I think everybody should give some time to help make this country better. Not just taxes.

eh... probably wouldn't be a bad idea... we should make everyone do it... not just the "other people" though... even if it's like habitat for humanity or something, it would be great... in fact, I think a program like this would benefit the top 10 percent the most... they would meet other people and realize that just because someone is poor, it doesn't man they are lazy... get them out of their gated communites and show them what happens in the real world.

I'm not saying every rich person doesn't know what's going on in middle America, but I do think that some of them do not... but a program like this could help show those that don't know, that we are all people Report It

I think anyone who wants to immigrate to this country should serve mandatory service to the country and that anyone who drops out of school should serve 4 years in the military. If you have been on welfare for more than 6 months you serve 4 years in the military. If you get convicted of a nonviolent crime, such as drug sales, etc., then you serve 4 years in the military.

I don't believe any service too our country should be mandatory. You think we have problems now. Just force a bunch of people too do something they truly do not want too do. I assume in reference too yourself that you are talking about military service. If you have access too any old and honest upper military personell. Who were around during the time of compulsory service and who also got too see the results of an all volunteer service. They will tell you that they had a lot less problems with the all volunteer system. People who are forced too do what they don't want too will always find a way too slow down or screw up the system. Even if it means following every procedure too the letter of the law. Sending back reports for not checking off one single check mark and in the process costing thousands of dollars, when the intent of the form is know full well.
