Why does the post office charge so much for CRAPPY service?

It's not like they don't have competition. If you're unhappy, go elsewhere.

Personally, I think the USPS does an outstanding job, and that their prices are very reasonable.

And why are there always long lines in post offices? Don't they think peoples time is valuable? I will say that their priority mail is very fast though.

BECAUSE THEY CAN....THE USPS IS AN AGENCY OF THE FEDERAL GOVT, AND LIKE ANY OTHER GOVT AGENCY, THEY HAVE NO INCENTIVE OR DESIRE TO PROVIDE QUALITY CUSTOMER SERVICE

Bear in mind what a wise man imparted on me a long, long time ago: Civil servants (all government employees are civil servants, even when they're Not being polite)have three speeds; slow, stop & reverse! If you are waiting for the resolution to an issue at the counter, the clerk is slow.If you get mad & argue or complain, they will stop what they're doing completely &, if you ask a question, they will usually just start backing up & turning around to ask someone else since they, themselves, never seem to have the answer !! Go Figure!

You mean sending letters for 39 cents? Most first-class mail is 1-3 day service, which is a bargain to me.

If you don't think their package service is any good, use one of their competitiors.

By the way, the government doesn't run the Postal Service. It regulates it and controls its rates, but the USPS is an independent establishment of the Executive Branch of the federal government. The Postmaster General is considered its CEO.
