Why does the civil service always cry about wages, then go to the media and threaten to strike?

listening to civil servants cry about "NOT ENOUGH WAGES" when some people can't go see a doctor, go to emergency, go to EI, kids can't go to school, bus strike and pedestrians can't bus it nonsense I am tired of civil service workers whining and striking, would they prefer we contract out their jobs? My wife could do cleaning for $10 to $13 an hour with benefits and overtime. It's not ideal but you can be a medical transcriptionist for $18 an hour or more. Not bad. EI counsellors get $20 an hour or more. She works as a busser at one restaurant and a waitress at another. She studied English Literature, Social Work and has a diploma in office administration. Private offices start at $9-$11 an hour. What is the bitching and whining about?

Myself, I was a baker and a line cook. I have worked as a server. The only place I made wicked tips was in Banff. Edmonton was pretty good on certain nights. Still, it came out to maybe $12-$14 an hour. Never had any benefits.

I am not a civil service worker. But I will say this: Those who never had a work contract (with a union-arranged, union-negotiated periodic salary increase or benefits package) will not understand the slug in the gut when elected officials decide to toss the contract, and withhold benefits, in a game of political football, or for some crooked reason.

I have seen that happen in the state I used to live in, and I knew the intricacies of the inside story because a relative was at all the meetings, and knew precisely what went on -- the media-leaked crap version for Bubba, and the truth. It was appalling.

I think it's likely that you are assuming too much, and rounding the corners off other people's lives a little too carelessly in your interpretation of the way things should work. You have your expectations going into it, based on what you know about the way your work operates, and they do too.

Traffic Controllers tried it with Reagan, he fired them, they all got on at Mickey D's.

I kind of agree. Our trash men have been on slow down & threatening to strike for more money & holidays. They have maxed out the benefits. I confused since they are not in an Union, how can you strike? In my opinion, you can't strike
without Union - you can quit and you can be replaced.
Not picking up trash is not going to gain you support in a
non-union state.
