Expedited Passport Service Includes Overnight Delivery?

I went to my post office and applied for a passport there, with expedited services. I was told that with expedited service the application is delivered to the passport processing location overnight.

I also heard that once the passport is ready to be sent out, with expedited service, overnight delivery to the person is done? Am I Right?

I ask because I leave to china in 5 days and still have no received it or gone to get my visa.

You are right only in what they told you. Yes your application went overnight to the processing center, and it will come back overnight too. However it's the time in the processing center that isn't accounted for. I got one back expeditied last week and it only took two weeks total...that is amazingly quick right now. Normal time for an expedited passport is 4 weeks. You need to call today and make an appointment (which you must have or will be turned away) to walk-in and get it the same day. Even with an appointment expect to stand in line 2-4 hours. Here is the website to set up an appointment:

There is a terrible backup of processing passports right now. Yes your aplication will probaly be overnighted to and from the processing center, BUT, the processing time is going to be at least weeks...even expedited. Sorry, but this is the case right now. They should have told you. Did you tell them you plan to travel in 5 days? Your only hope is to go to the 2nd site below and scroll down to #3 and read it. They have millions of passports to process, so I am sorry, but you probably don't have a hope. The first website below is info for getting a visa to China...just in case you need that info.

Expedited service will get you your passport faster than if you went with standard processing. However, even prior to the current passport crush expedited service wouldn't have gotten you your passport in 5 days.

You need to do the following. First call 1-877-4USA-PPT
Customer Service Representatives and Operators for TDD/TTY are available Monday-Friday, 7 a.m. to midnight, Eastern Time, excluding federal holidays. Representatives are also available for limited weekend hours for emergency situations in which travelers are leaving in 7 days or less. You need to speak with an operator regarding your situation so that they can get your passport as quickly as possible.

Next up: Call your Congressional Representative ASAP. They have somebody who also handles passport issues, make sure you speak with them. They will assist you with getting your passport.

Now, what about a Visa? From the US State Department Website:

You may be cutting it VERY close to get this resolved

normally overnight postage is not included in the expedite fee - that fee is paid to the state department for speedier processing.
these fees are normally paid by the customer separately.

below is what the state department says:

Additionally, to receive your passport as soon as possible, we strongly suggest that you arrange overnight delivery service for:

1. Sending your passport application

AND

2. Returning your passport to you.
