Windows Service Pack 2?

So I just bought office home and student 07 and it says I cant install it w/o Windows service pack 2.When I do try to install it it says program c:\windows\server32\service.exe is running then I try to exit it by using task manager and search but it just says critical process can not get out of or program is being used.Is there any other way I can install Service Pack 2 w/o buying the cd? I rly need to install Office Home and Student.

You can downlaod Service Pack 2 from microsoft.com. It may take a while to downlaod though.

The service pack they are referring to is for your OS. You can download service pack 2 from here:

I would reboot and then download and install the service pack. As far as the service.exe that is running, that is usually some sort of virus/spyware that has gotten into your system. It is not from Microsoft. Don't get it confused with services.exe as that IS from Microsoft. Here is a link about service.exe. Do a Google search on it and you will find more. It is safe to stop it. Remember that you want to stop service not services.

go to windowsupdate and get all the critical updates. You may have to do this several times, as it may require you to reboot, then new ones will be availabe. I'd download all the updates for XP. They're put out for reasons you know!!!
