How many Secret Service agents does a former president travel around with?

I also read that there was a law passed by Congress during the Clinton administration which says that any president elected after 2000 would only be given Secret Service protection for up to ten years after he/she leaves office (unless otherwise requested by the former president due to an imminent threat against his/her safety).

Weird to consider the possibility of a U.S. president walking around on a busy Manhattan street all alone, with no one around him...

George W. Bush will be the first person affected by this new law; though, as the son of a former president himself, wouldn't he be exempted from this? (all current former presidents have Secret Service protection for life).

Yes, the law was passed and the current president and his wife would only have secret service protection for 10 years. Even though he is the son of a former president, he is not eligible for secret service protection because he is entirely too old. Children are only protected by the S.S. when their father leaves office until age 16.

But, with this war and all that the current President started, he'l have protection believe me; someone would indeed kill him on the spot.

There's no way you would ever get accurate data for that question. Just by getting a real answer you would be making the security detail weaker, so the Secret Service never says how many people are guarding their person at any particular time, nor historically for the exact same reason.

Clinton is the first president to never even work a single day in his life in a private job.
He has lived off taxpayers all his life. And always will.
Does anyone know what president was Man enough to refuse Secret Service protection, just to save the country money??????
A guy who grew up poor and did work: Richard Nixon.

last i understood was that 2-4 sometimes more depending on circumstance but other methods of security are provided like state and local police. with the lifetime pensions a president gets along with other financial gimme's former presidents should have no problem protecting themselves. also they can at anytime refuse the secret service if they want to.

we can't tell you. It is classified info.
