Why are democrats and hillary clinton not fighting for women to be included in selective service?

Some people who are liberals feel like it is time for a woman to take control of this nation. However why arent alot of these same people complaining that selective service is unfair to take just men if the they claim their goal is to get equality for women. If we can both vote, receive financial aid and federal benefits, enlist in the army voluntarily, and run for office why arent we both forced to sign up for selective service?

Hillary Clinton, and other Democratic candidates, have already come out and stated that women should be included in selective service. They aren't making a big issue out of it, or mounting a big push for it, but they have been clear about their stands on it:

The candidates gathered in Charleston, S.C., for a unique CNN/YouTube debate that showcased prerecorded, submitted questions from voters. One of those dealt with whether women should register.

"We've had combat deaths of women in Iraq and Afghanistan," Sen. Hillary Clinton of New York said. "And I do think that women should register. I doubt very much that we'll ever have to go back to a draft. But I think it is fair to call upon every young American."

She added, though, that she's opposed to the draft.

Sen. Barack Obama (Ill.) agreed.

"I think that if women are registered for service -- not necessarily in combat roles, and I don't agree with the draft -- I think it will help to send a message to my two daughters that they've got obligations to this great country as well as boys do," he said.

Former Sen. John Edwards didn't answer the question directly but pointed to a woman in the audience, sitting next to his wife, who flew combat missions over Baghdad. "Anybody who has any question about whether women can serve courageously and honorably" should go see her, he said.

Sen. Christopher Dodd (Conn.) said he opposed the draft but added, "[I]f you're going to have registration, it ought to be across [gender] lines; you don't just ask one gender to ... have the responsibility. So in my view that would be the fair thing to do."

alot of the higher women in our culture are being paid off.
like hillary clinton for example, she had a huge health care campaign and the insurance people paid her off.

I'm a lib and I think we should fully re-instate the draft as a minimum 4-year National Service requirement and open it to both males and females with NO preferential or special treatment (like Dubbya got in the NG).

Every single US citizen should get a turn on the wheel - that way everyone has a true understanding of what it means to sacrifice and to serve!

Actually with the women's movement of past decades women and men are equal in everything. Women have proven to be every bit as good in battlefield conditions as men have. So why not? In today's mechanized military it seems we can use the help from both genders. Both should be eligible for selective service. It is that way in other countries and works well.

Well, to be honest, lets put this into perspective. The plane that the President flew was not in use in the Theatre of Operations. The plane he flew was designed to intercept bombers. I do not recall any large bombing campaings by North Vietnam during the war.

Didn't Clinton stay in college the whole time during Vietnam? Sounds like a dodge to me.
