Help about service tax on rent payment?

i am paying office rent monthly Rs.14500, i just know about what is the exeption limit on service tax applicable on rent & what is the rete of service tax applicable on rent payment

It is your landlord who is supposed to recover service-tax from you. The rate is 12.36% of the rent you pay. However, if your landlord is earning less than Rs 8 lakhs in a year from renting of commercial properties, or if he owns only this commercial property (which you have occupied), he need not recover service-tax from you.

please do not worry about the service tax. it is your owner who is required to collect from you and pay to dept. if he is asking you pay otherwise ignore it.

whether collecting service tax on rent is constitutional will be determined in the court of law very soon.
