Canceling service??

I had wireless internet installed-----a big dish hanging off the side of my deck which along with their service amount every month, 20 bucks would be added to pay for the equipment for 2 years. So the service isnt worth crap and within the 30 days of getting started, i call to cancel and am told they will charge my account for the equipment. I stated that they wouldnt, they could come get it, no big deal, reusable, etc. and was again told they would charge me and she states that with my debit card on file, etc........so i cancel the card.......can they legally do anything to me past this point especially if i physically took the hardware in to the local office maybe?

no. you gave them what you bought from them. So unless there are no refunds or other terms you agreed to, you shouldn't have a problem.

Did you sign a contract? I was tricked into signing a contract. I was told i was just signing stating that the tech was there & the install was done. If you did sign a contract they can come after you. They probably will send it to a collection agency but you should keep on top of them. If they say you signed a contract ask them to send you a copy. Thats how I got out of mine they couldn't find a copy of thier own contract.

Read your contract very carefully. Many times they can still come after you or charge you an early termination fee.

Also if it was either Dish Network or DirecTV you may have one other issue to face as well. for them once you are a customer with them you are always a customer. Might not sound like a big deal but if you decide to ever switch to satellite tv you iwll have to purchase outright all your equipment and that is not cheap.

Also they probably have your social security number as well on file and may attack your credit or sue you to get a judgment for the remainder of the contract value.

Best advice I can give you is to read your contract with the provider carefully. If you want more security call a lawyer for a free consultation and have them read over the documents to let you know what can be done.
